"Future Fantasy" by British artist and activist Vinca Petersen.
First adventure away from parents at age 17. It was the coming-of-age story of a kid who moved to London, made a living modeling, tapped into the illegal rave scene, and traveled with trucks loaded with speakers and food. Future Fantasy is a work that uses Vinca's archive (a small collection of about 100 photos that he kept in his teens and early 20s along with a diary).
I scrapbooked my diary from that time, flyers and stickers, tickets to parties I went to, passport photos with friends, and a crazy collaged birthday card my friend made. These are all big parts of Vinca's story.
Among them are letters from Corinne Day, Vinca's best friend and legendary photographer.
Vinca said of the book,
“Everything is going digital these days: diaries, photo prints, handmade birthday cards. Everything is digitally recorded, but nothing remains. It disappears somewhere on the edge of the thread.And the device that stores it is replaced and thrown away.In 10 or 20 years, it will come to be interesting.Future fantasy is When you grow up, it's about looking back at that material and making it meaningful."
