Sophie Thun / Trails and Tributes
Sophie Thun is currently working with the art historical tradition of (self-)expression, as well as considering the medium of photography from multiple perspectives. She also explores ways of photographic expression in order to visualize the construction of images and identities. Confident and willing to experiment, she questions traditional images of women as muses and models, creating contrasts with her artistic work that subverts existing power structures.
This book, as well as the exhibition ``Trails and Tributes'' held at the Hildesheim Museum with the same title, uses photographs from the archive of artist Zenta Dzividzinska, who died in 2011. During his research stay in Riga, Tun encountered the Latvian photographer's works and cited them with an artistic interpretation. She was one of only two women who belonged to a photo club in Riga during her lifetime, and due to unfortunate circumstances, she has been denied wide exposure to this day, and has never even had the chance to stand on the stage to receive acclaim. I am trying to visualize and publish photos of Zenta Żywiczynska that never existed.
Sophie Thun (born 1985, lives in Vienna, Austria)
He primarily creates works by making full use of analog photography techniques, space, process, and production and exhibition conditions. Her work is deeply connected to the context of self-portraiture in European art history, weaving together texts dating back to the 16th century that draw on contemporary young aspiring artists to explore the very challenges they face today. We will also focus on the unfortunate situation within the current art system.
Tung spends much of his time working in the darkroom, bringing his body into direct contact with the photographic paper. Through this, she creates shadows and traces, incorporates them into new images, and transforms them into complex arrangements in space. By directly modifying her photographic works, painting, which is the origin of her artistic medium, is constantly recognized and visualized.
