Pauline Vanden Neste & Tom Lyon / On est venus ici pour la vue
"Adjacent to the Viestebruck watershed in Anderlecht, the Aurore district is a rather unique district in Brussels. Before the Canal Plan changed the landscape of this district, young photographers Tom Lyon and Pauline Vanden Neste went to meet the residents of this area."
A collection of works by Pauline Vanden Neste and Tom Lyon, photographers based in Brussels, Belgium.
“The Canal Zone is undergoing great upheaval, and even those of us who live there as art students are feeling it,” says Pauline Vanden Neste. "This is the area where we go to party. Artist studios are popping up, real estate projects are coming up, and now it's becoming more gentrified."
Brussels is an eternal construction site, transformed by huge political and urban projects that share a utopia. In particular, the large-scale Canal Plan drawn up in 2012 promised new housing, vibrancy, and revitalization in areas adjacent to the man-made waterways that flow through the city.
``We were drawn to the Aurore area, but we couldn't explain why. There was a lot of greenery, there was a soccer field, and the only bar in the area, the Gentleman, had long since closed. Or maybe it's because of its old-fashioned appearance. The surrounding area is a former industrial park that is being reborn as a residential area. The Aurore area will also undergo further changes in the coming years. Meanwhile, daily life continues. We met special people and lived through interrupted times and solitude. ” _Pauline Vanden Neste
A city that continues to update, and portraits of the people who are based there. The document reveals the intimate story of the city's landscape and its people.
